Dr. Kathleen Hamilton has a history of success in the business side of dentistry. As President of the US subsidiary of a Swiss medical device company, she transformed a troubled company by cutting losses, increasing revenues and restructuring operations and sales. The US subsidiary became profitable under her direction. Kathleen understands the business reorganization; restructuring, marketing and sales required for success. She has led teams, published articles, spoken professionally and is adept at handling the challenges in today’s business environment. Kathleen served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce and on a number of their committees in a leadership capacity. She was chosen for Leadership Dallas, a group exposed to critical community issues, enabling them to develop their leadership capacities, build relationships and apply their talents throughout the community. Today, Kathleen leverages her knowledge, experience, and expertise for dental specialists in all phases of their career transitions.
As a former dental hygienist and a licensed Texas dentist, Kathleen understands dentistry from the inside out. She has hands-on experience working with patients and knows the struggles dentists face in both clinical and business issues. Along with Dr. Joel Small, her partner in Phase II, Kathleen is dedicated to guiding dentists through some of the most difficult and life impacting decisions of their careers. Her passion lies in seeing her clients succeed financially, professionally and personally.
Dr. Joel C. Small earned his reputation as a respected endodontist and businessman throughout the course of his 30 + year career. He cofounded North Texas Endodontic Associates (NTEA) in Plano, Texas in 1992. He, along with his two practice partners, Doctors David Witherspoon and John Regan have received numerous awards and recognitions, including being recognized by their fellow dentists as Texas Monthly’s “Super Dentists” and D Magazine’s “Best Endodontists” Joel has remained active in organized dentistry throughout his endodontic career. He has served the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) in several capacities including trustee of the Research and Education Foundation. He chaired an AAE sponsored symposium on endodontic microsurgery, and he has served as a national spokesperson for the AAE. He is a past president of the Southwest Society of Endodontists. He has lectured throughout the country on clinical and practice management related topics.
Dr. Small received his DDS and endodontic post graduate training at The University of Texas Dental branch in Houston, TX. He received his Masters of Business Administration degree (MBA), with an emphasis in health care administration, from Texas Tech University. He is the author of the recently released book, Face to Face: A Leadership Guide for Health Care Professionals and Entrepreneurs.
Partnering with Dr. Kathleen Hamilton, Joel brings to Phase II Associates the experience and expertise of a long career as a dental specialist. Joel believes that no one can understand the uniqueness of transitioning a specialty dental practice better than someone that has full knowledge of the specialist’s needs and the “know how “to meet those needs. Phase II caters specifically to dental specialists who need guidance and assistance in practice transitions – from practice sales to associateships to purchasing a dental practice.

Abby graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 2006 with a degree in accounting and a minor in sociology. She spent the first year of her career working in Plano, TX as an accountant for a leading company in the e-commerce industry. She then transitioned into their sales department as an account manager, as well as handling financial analysis for key accounts. In 2009 she accepted a job with a global market leader in IT security, solutions, and services. She worked as a Senior Account Manager handling their West Coast accounts from their corporate office in Austin, TX. Abby is now our Client Relations Coordinator.
